SNOW!!

Well the East Coast got slammed with a winter storm and we weren't spared! While this area may get one or two snowfalls per winter, it's rarely enough to stick to the ground for more than a few hours. Through the night we got around 8 inches! This town will be kept to a stand still for at least a few days!

The twins were super excited when they woke up and had to go out a play. They each lasted 10-15 minutes and then had to come in. They dried off and got warm with some hot chocolate. We even made Snow Cream which is apparently some sort of Southern Tradition when it snows, as I grew up in Canada and never heard of such a thing. It was super yummy!! I'll definitely have to put the pot out if it snows again!

Recipe if you're interested...

8 cups of snow - put a large pot out early in the snow fall to catch fresh snow
1 cup Milk - we used whole
1/2 cup sugar
Vanilla Extract to taste

7 Weeks

M is 7 Weeks today. Other than becoming very smiley, especially in the morning, we haven't made any new big milestones.

I had my follow up OB appointment. I am down 30lbs - yeah! but so much more to go - and everything looked well. I had a little scar tissue that had formed from one of my tears that my midwife put silver nitrate to, to burn it off - OUCH! I never got organized enough to get a picture of M with my midwife in the hospital, so I finally got a picture of the two of them.

Sweetness

Here are a few more recent pics of M.

Things are crazy around here. Trying to get into a better routine which is more difficult than it seems. I am starting to freak out about going back to work. Only 3.5 weeks left. I am also going back to 12 hour shifts instead of the 8 I was working before. I am dreading being away from the kids for the ENTIRE day, but at least it's still only 2 days a week. I can do anything for 2 days a week...right?

The twins have both been sick with a cold/cough. Last night they both collapsed into bed and looked absolutely pitiful. Today they seem a bit better. M has a stuffy nose and I hope that's all he'll get.

I am a cloth diaper drop out :0( I initially thought that I would cloth diaper M, but now that it's time I realize that I don't have the time or energy to deal with all that clean up and laundry. I have listed all my dipes on eBay and so far have done really well with selling my stash. Hopefully that will continue and I will get most of my investment back.

6 Weeks

Six Weeks. It seems like he was born only yesterday, and it also seems like he has been here forever. It's been an amazing (and tiring) six weeks.

M is doing well for his age. He can roll over from front to back. He is tracking people with his eyes and loves to walk around and look at things. He has more periods of wakefulness while still sleeping great during the day. Our problem time is still between 8p and 1a. I would love for us to get past that! He also seems to really know who I am. If he hears my voice he gets frantic trying to find me...especially if he is hungry :0) and sometimes when he's with others and totally fussy, I will take him and he instantly nestles in my chest and falls asleep.
In preparation for me going back to work, M has been getting a bottle every few days. The twins LOVE helping with feedings as you can see below!

A Scary Night

Last night M was very fussy. He cried for a few hours straight and by 1am I was exhausted. I put him in his pack n play and laid down beside him to try and get some rest. He continued to cry until about 5 minutes later when I heard an odd noise and then silence. I popped out of bed, turned the light on and found that he had thrown up all over, but that it was coming out his nose and M was beet red and not really breathing. I immediately grabbed him and wiped and suctioned out the vomit while he was freaking out. I was able to clear out his mouth and nasal passages but M was hysterical and his breathing was still a little off.

I watched him for about an hour. An hour where he was still crying off and on and every so often seemed to lose his breath. Based on the way he was acting I think he breathed in some of the vomit and was having a hard time clearing it. So...of course I didn't sleep well the rest of the night because I was constantly checking on M. He actually slept on my chest so that he was nearby and I would know if he started struggling again.

This morning he seems fine. I haven't noticed any breathing issues and he fed well. I hope this doesn't happen again. I'm sure it will be awhile before I put him down while crying...I don't think I could take that feeling of guilt again.

Holy Moly! He's HUGE!

Actually, despite his rapid growth, he isn't really chubby or huge, he's just growing very quickly.

He saw his doctor for the first time today. At his last official weight check, he was 7lbs9oz. Today he was 10 pounds!! Wow. At birth M was 20.25" long and today he was 22". Amazing.

At this rate I think he will outgrow the twins by 6 months old...I guess time will tell.

One Month Old

It's official. I have a one month old.

Overall he is still a great baby. Still breastfeeding easily and for the most part very content. He does have his fussy periods - mostly at night - but really I can't complain about anything. He is growing way too fast! I am pretty sure he is nearing the 10 pound mark. He seems taller and someone said they thought his hair was already growing! I definitely would like to find a way to freeze time, but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon :)

The twins are still doing well. They enjoy 'visiting' with him, but still have each other to keep themselves company, so the focus isn't too much on M or me.

Enjoy the pic. M had just had a bath and every time I wash his hair, it sticks up like that all day :)

4 Weeks Old

How on Earth? Why is it that pregnancy seems to go at a snails pace but you blink and your baby is almost a month old!?

M is still overall a very good baby. He is having more awake periods and sometimes just doesn't know what to do with himself during those times. Until 3 or 4pm he is a wonderful baby and very content. Then he turns into a little fussy monster :) Yesterday, though, I bought a Moby wrap and carried him around most of the afternoon which kept him very happy. I guess I will just need to keep him close until he is old enough to be entertained by other means.

M has his one month appointment next Wednesday, so I'll be sure to post the stats. He is such a different baby than the twins, which is fine, I just need to readjust my thinking. I think the twins were in newborn size clothes and diapers for a month or two and M grew out of his at one week old.

The twins are still doing well. We are having a hell of a time getting back into a decent routine. The kids got into a bad habit of going to bed late with the birth of M, the holidays and having family here. I have been trying to get their bedtime routine back to normal and it's killing me. Hopefully we will be back on track soon!

Happy 2010!

Well 2010 is here. 2009 wasn't so bad. Pregnancy made me ill the majority of the year, but of course the payoff was huge. Hopefully 2010 will bring good times, good company and good health to all of us.

So far I have been blessed with a near perfect baby. He took to breast feeding like an expert, he rarely fusses, is easily consoled and still spends most of the day sleeping soundly. My only complaint would be the fact that he thinks he is supposed to be up from 11pm to about 3am (UGH) but I'm hoping that improves soon. Luckily my parents are still here so I get to sleep in most mornings until about 11am. If he continues to be this good. well then I really can't complain about anything!

Next week we will be back to the grind; S has speech therapy, the twins with gymnastics, and what seems like a doctors appointment every week. It makes me a little anxious thinking about it, but it's also my new reality so I better get used to it :)
Here are a few new pics
M's first bath. His cord took a little while to come off, so he was almost 3 weeks old. He actually seemed to like it.

Max wide awake. 3 weeks old.
